HEROES AND VILLAINS
Friday 22nd – Sunday 24th January
Bartley Lodge Hotel, Cadnam, New Forest
Bartley Lodge is a splendid Grade II listed country house hotel set
in the heart of the New Forest, in 8 acres of grounds. The facilities
are well appointed and versatile, including 31 en-suite bedrooms and
an indoor swimming pool. The Grand Baronial Hall will be the location
for our meetings.
Our music will focus particularly on the nature of heroism and villainy
in relation to two operas: Strauss’s Salome and Mascagni’s Cavalleria
Rusticana. The same theme will also be explored in music by Berlioz,
Tchaikovsky, Mendelssohn and Schmitt. The weekend is designed as an
informal ‘house party’. Guests need only the ability to enjoy music,
so no technical knowledge will be required.
Terry Barfoot writes widely on music for Britain's leading journals, orchestras,
festivals and record companies. He lectures at venues throughout the country and
is Publications Consultant to the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra.
