Bartley Lodge Hotel, Cadnam, New Forest Fiday23rd – Sunday 25th January 2009The venue Bartley Lodge is a splendid Grade II listed country house hotel set in the heart of the New Forest, in 8 acres of grounds. The facilities are well appointed and versatile, including 31 en-suite bedrooms and an indoor swimming pool. The Grand Baronial Hall will be the location for our meetings. The course Our music will focus particularly on the nature of heroism and villainy in relation to two operas: Verdi’s Rigoletto and Janácek’s Jenufå. The same theme will also be explored in music by Weber, Wagner, Prokofiev and Liszt. The weekend is designed as an informal ‘house party’. Guests need only the ability to enjoy music, so no technical knowledge will be required. Terry Barfoot writes widely on music for Britain’s leading journals, orchestras, festivals and record companies. He lectures at venues throughout the country and is Publications Consultant to the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra. Course members will arrive on Friday from 5pm, and depart after tea on Sunday. Arts in Residence offers an excellent cuisine with four course dinners and wine, and a traditional Sunday lunch.
