The Georgian House Hotel, Haslemere, Surrey Fiday20th – Sunday 22nd February 2009The venue The elegant and historic Georgian House Hotel is situated in Haslemere High Street, and is set in attractive Porivate gardens. With well-equipped modern and period bedrooms, it has its own car park, leisure spa and swimming pool. The course Beethoven is as central to music as Shakespeare is to drama and literature, and his wide-ranging list of compositions offers endless opportunities for discovery. Our weekend will concentrate on his second decade in Vienna, and will feature a variety of music, including a symphonies, concertos, chamber music and piano sonatas, with illustrations on excellent hi-fi equipment as well as a live concert. The weekend is designed as an informal ‘house party’, so guests need only the ability to enjoy music; no technical knowledge will be required. Arts in Residence offers an excellent cuisine including wine with dinner. The event will end with afternoon tea on Sunday, but for those wishing to depart on Monday, it will be possible to stay for an extra night at a special rate. Terry Barfoot writes widely on music for Britain’s leading journals, orchestras, festivals and record companies. He lectures at venues throughout the country and is Publications Consultant to the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra. Peter Rhodes has worked variously as a solo recitalist, harpsichord continuo player and in opera. He has performed with many eminent artists, including Kiri te Kanawa and Benjamin Luxon. He has taken part in several Arts in Residence events. Course members will arrive on Friday from 5pm, and depart after tea on Sunday. Arts in Residence offers an excellent cuisine with four course dinners and wine, and a traditional Sunday lunch.
