Our weekend will explore music inspired by Shakespeare. No writer or dramatist has had a greater influence on composers,
resulting a host of masterpieces across several centuries. The event is designed as an informal house party, and guests
need only the ability to enjoy music, since no technical knowledge is required. The music examples will be provided on
excellent hi-fi equipment.
The Salford Hall Hotel is set in a Tudor manor that has been tastefuly restored. Located close to Stratford upon Avon
and Evesham, it is great architectural and historical interest, having been built for the guests of nearby Evesham Abbey.
The rooms are finely decorated with rich textiles and reproduction period furniture.
We will meet on Friday at 5pm and depart on Sunday afternoon. Arts in Residence and the Salford Hall Hotel offer an
excellent cuisine, including dinner with wine and a traditional Sunday lunch.
Terry Barfoot writes widely on music for Britain’s leading journals, orchestras, festivals and record companies.
A well-known figure in the musical life of southern England, he lectures at Oxford and other universities, and is
Publications Consultant to the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra.
Course members will arrive on Friday at 5pm and depart after tea on Sunday. Arts in Residence and
Salford Hall Hotel offer an excellent cuisine including dinners with wine. The weekend will end with tea on Sunday.
