Mahler Symphonies and Songs
13th - 15th November 2009

THE HOTEL

Originally a 15th Century coaching
inn, the Crown & Cushion is now a
proud forty-bedroom hotel right in
the heart of the Cotswolds.
Comfortably appointed bedrooms,
several with four-poster beds, have
been tastefully refurbished and
offer modern facilities while
retaining their original charm.

THE COURSE

In his symphonies Mahler was
concerned to explore the essential
issues at the heart of man’s
existence: the conflict of the
life-force and the death-force.
In this ambitious pursuit his
Third and Sixth symphonies employ
vivid imageries with magnificent
orchestral assurance. To complement
the symphonies we will also feature
songs by Mahler and his wife Alma,
while also considering aspects of
Mahler’s extraordinary life and
career. The music examples was
provided on excellent hi-fi
equipment, including DVD with
large screen.
